Injection Molding - Strengthening the Part with Physical Reinforcement And Draft
Rounding Corners
Providing Sufficient Draft
One simple technique that can be used to strengthen an injection molding is rounding the part’s corners. This helps alleviate stress to the finished part. Corners can be rounded with a radius to dispense stress more evenly and help streamline the flow of the injected plastic.

Providing Sufficient Draft
Draft helps allow the removal of the part from its mold and is particularly significant when used in Rapid Injection molding, where molds are done without any side action. Generally the larger degree draft the better, within the functional and physical restrictions of the part. It is advised that a minimum of 0.5 degree be used on vertical faces. 2 degrees is a general rule of thumb. 3 degrees can be used for a light texture or for a shutoff. Larger values can be used for increased texture.
A telescoping shutoff is when shutoff surfaces slide with respect to each other when the mold opens and closes. The sliding action creates friction on the mold, which can cause it to break down over time or yield faulty parts. Therefore, the angle of the telescoping shutoff should be 1-3. These steps will provide you with the best Custom Contract Manufacturing solution we can provide.
